Questions and Answers

Q: Is this a Natural or Glitz Pageant?

Good Question! As a preparatory system to the Miss America and Miss USA systems-We encourage Naturalness and Elegance. If you need a label-we could be described as Low Glitz-Glitz dresses are allowed, but should not be overpowering or distracting from the contestant. Hair and Makeup is allowed but should be soft and natural looking and not overpower or take away from the Natural Beauty of the contestant. We also do not allow Fake teeth or Hair. Clothing and Hair and Makeup should be age approprite. Modeling is scored, but should be straight Miss America modeling-No Pro-am. We are looking for girls who are soft, age appropriate, with lots of personality and poise who are well put together.

Q: What are your rules on Hair and Makeup?

Hair and Makeup is fine as long as it is Soft, Age Appropriate and Complimentary to the child. We do NOT allow Hairpieces, or Flippers. A deduction of 10 points will be given to anyone disregarding the Hairpiece/Flipper rule.

Q: What style of modeling should we use?

We prefer straight Beauty modeling. A more upbeat walk is acceptable for Swimwear and Sportswear. No Pro-Am routines are allowed. A deduction of 10 points will be given at the discretion of the director for anyone doing Pro-am. Wee Baby and Baby contestants are not judged on modeling.

Q: What type of Gown should we wear?

Wee Baby through Petite Contestants have the option of wearing a long or short Gown. This may be Glitzy or Plain-both are acceptable, and both do well-as long as the gown does not take away from the child. Preteen through Senior contestants MUST wear a long gown. Our judges will be looking for Age Appropriateness, Fit, and Overall Appearance.

Q: My daughter is in the Petite group-what type of Sportswear should she wear?

Wee Baby through Petite contestants may wear their choice of Sportswear. This should be something like you would wear to school, to have pictures made, or to a casting call. It may be preppy, nautical, dressy-Choose something that reflects your personality! Petite contestants may wear Schoolwear or may choose to go with more of an Interview suit-as this is a transitional age divsion--either one are acceptable and both do well. Outfits can be store bought or custom made, but should not have Glitz, Rhinestones, or be a vogue look. No props-please. At State-Each contestant will be asked an on-stage question from their form on their last X. Questions will not be asked on the preliminary level. Preteen through Senior contestants will have a 5 minute Interview with the panel of judges. Attire may be a dress, pantsuit or business suit. Interview will be based on a one-page fact sheet submitted by the contestant. On the Preliminary level, Preteen through Senior contestants model their attire on stage and will not be asked any questions. No questions will be asked to Any age group on the preliminary level.

Q: We have both a Glitzy Retouched Photo and a Natural Headshot-Which one should we enter?

As we stated before-We encourage naturalness, so a more Natural Headshot is preferred, but not required. Retouching is fine as long as it is not unnatural looking or takes away from the beauty of the contestant. You may enter more than one photo.
